OVERVIEW

An extremely small space and equally tight budget saw the fit-out of DUK become an exercise in the minutiae. This second collaboration with the owners this time showcases their love of Chinese cooking in an elegantly simple space devoid of the usual design cues. Touches of rich royal blue counter traditional colour schemes of the ubiquitous Australian-Chinese restaurant, while the circular steel kitchen pass pays homage to their iconic Moon Gate-inspired entranceways. Its warm, intimate and low-lit space was conceived to differentiate it from its beachside setting, creating a more urban atmosphere befitting of its laneway location. Custom furniture and light coloured walls, illuminated by concealed lighting, amplify the feeling of space, with dark recycled Spotted Gum and Cambia Ash lending drama and warmth.
