Fletcher Street Cottage is officially open! Provi Fletcher Street Cottage is officially open!

Providing meals, showers, laundry, advocacy & support to the substantial number of people experiencing homelessness in our community, this dedicated services hub includes a commercial kitchen, outdoor dining space, garden, consultation rooms, ablutions and laundry facilities.

We are honoured to have been part of the team of local businesses donating services to this important project, led by Byron Community Centre, Creative Capital & Byron Council.

With NSW's highest population of people sleeping rough outside Sydney CBD and so many people displaced by recent back-to-back floods, goodness knows we need it.

As many of you will already be aware, it has been As many of you will already be aware, it has been a horrific week up here in the Northern Rivers. We, along with most of the region, continue to be without NBN and on very limited 4G. We will be back to work this week but hobbled by these communication difficulties… your understanding and patience is much appreciated during this devastating time for our community.

The initiative, energy and compassion shown by the DFJ team has been nothing short of amazing. They have spent the last four days tirelessly assisting households directly affected by floodwaters - first in Mullumbimby, and then onto Lismore once the waters had receded enough. The scenes are hard to comprehend. Levels far exceeded worst-case modelling, submerging both the public projects we were involved with - @lismorecityhall (@norpalismore) and @lismoreregionalgallery - and we are heartbroken for them and the wider region.

With communities still cut off and communication still down, the full extent of this crisis is still unfolding. There’s no doubt we are all emotionally fatigued by the ongoing pandemic and the situation in Ukraine, but if your hearts and wallets are able to stretch a little further to support the long and painful recovery ahead, we would implore you to consider doing so. Sincere thanks to those who already have.

Head to our bio where we have links to three fundraising drives assisting in different ways, and hats off to Lucila, Amber, John, James, Anastasia, Marco & Liam - and their partners. What an incredible bunch of humans.
Just back from another site visit to @bulloriverst Just back from another site visit to @bulloriverstation… such a privilege to be part of this long term project with @sibellacourt and Inrock Landscaping.

The clients have worked tirelessly over the last few years towards rehabilitating the 500,000 acre property, and the results of their extraordinary best practice land management are flourishing.

And that’s a wrap for 2021! A big thank you to And that’s a wrap for 2021!

A big thank you to the team, as well as our clients and collaborators for another phenomenal year!

We held early celebrations last week… first up, a rainforest walk & tour of @capebyrondistillery, then off to #PossumShootShed for a fun crafternoon of weaving with @ecosophy.sustainable.arts (thanks Kelly!) and feasting on delicious food from @south_east_canteen (thanks Tyler!). What a spot - thanks so much for having us A&J.

This team of incredibly talented and hardworking legends has smashed it out of the park again, despite the ongoing challenges of the last couple of years, and are now off for a few weeks of very well-deserved downtime!

Back in the studio Monday January 10 with a chockablock year of exciting projects!

PS We’re still interviewing for those two positions to start in the new year - link in bio!

Meet ‘Longfield’ - a 100 acre property just ou Meet ‘Longfield’ - a 100 acre property just outside of Mullumbimby and the location of this 1902 homestead we have been engaged to bring, with kid gloves, into the 21st century.

Embodying the story of European settlement in the region, its construction was a showcase of the precious hardwoods that first brought timber cutters to the area, clearing the Big Scrub as they went and installing dairy farms like Longfield in their wake.

Its wraparound bullnose verandah, dilapidated grandeur and prominent position on a north-facing grassy knoll make it a much loved local landmark that has sat empty for thirty years, rotting away due to a poor extension and box gutter.

These additions will be removed as part of the restoration of the original five-bedroom farmhouse, while a new open-plan living space is constructed at the rear, facing back towards the historic building. Positioned to preserve the view of the classic front elevation from the road, the extension is articulated to clearly separate old and new.

Contemporary in scale and form but echoing the original structure, the roof turns down to the east and west to protect from harsh morning/afternoon sun, while scooping up to the north to draw light deep into the plan. Outdoor terraces, pool and entertaining extend into the landscape along the western edge, with an anterior room to the east.

We could not be more excited to be supporting Longfield’s brave new owner - the first outside the family in 112 years - in her heroic mission to revitalise this remnant of our local built and agricultural history. Follow along @thelongfieldjourney

Responding to this growing crisis, the Byron Community Centre is working to reopen the Fletcher Street Cottage as a hub for Byron's most vulnerable, providing assistance with food, mental and physical health, legal aid and amenities… all without government assistance.

We are honoured to be part of the team of local businesses donating services to this important project, and wanted draw your attention to the Pozible fundraising campaign underway to raise $250k by September 10.

While the timing couldn’t be worse with so many people adversely affected by current lockdowns, we’re SO close to hitting the $100k mark! So if you love Byron and happen to be in a position to help out, please consider doing so!
