MANGO LANE

Mango Lane House is designed to touch the earth lightly and was sensitively positioned along the leading edge of an existing plateau down from an east facing ridge of the Tweed Caldera providing expansive and breathtaking views to Byron Bay.

The house is planned as long open L-shape responding to the contour of the site and a large existing poinciana tree, which provides shade from the western sun. The project extends the existing landscape in and around the house, providing courtyard gardens, rainforest regeneration, a pool, sauna and hot tub. The slender plan allows for maximum cross ventilation and penetration of natural light to all rooms and is split primarily into two forms connected by an external covered walkway. Primarily a self-contained one-bedroom home with home office and open planned living areas, the secondary wing expands the program when the extended family or friends are in residence. The house is made from locally sourced blackbutt, steel, aluminium, concrete and glass externally covering a warm interior palette of hardwood, natural fabrics, terracotta and burnished concrete.
