OVERVIEW

The clients required the construction of a contemporary living and kitchen space to an 1890 heritage-listed farmhouse, located hard up against the property’s northern boundary. The addition was conceived as a disarticulated pavilion, shifted towards the centre of the site, allowing for a better northern aspect and improved connection to its established one-acre garden. This subsequently created distinct public/private and acoustically separated zones, as well as a variety of courtyard spaces around the buildings. The original dwelling and outbuildings were stripped of decades of substandard accretions and carefully restored, with the new pavilion designed in a contemporary but sympathetic style.
